Biography
Career Summary
Sean Payton is a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) and has been the head coach for the Denver Broncos since 2023. During this time period, the Broncos compiled a 13-12-0 record. During his career he was a head coach for seventeen seasons, first with the New Orleans Saints. He led the Saints for fifteen seasons, compiling a record of 152-89-0. In 2009, the Saints won the Super Bowl against the Indianapolis Colts 31-17. He retired from the Saints on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. Payton stepped down from his role with the Saints after the conclusion of the 2021 season with three years remaining on his contract. His next head coaching stint was with the Denver Broncos from 2023 to 2024, as he led the team to a 13-12-0 record. During his entire head coaching career, his two teams combined for a record of 165-101-0 across seventeen seasons including going 9-8-0 in the playoffs.
Career Awards
Payton won the NFL's Coach of the Year award in 2006 after guiding the Saints to a 10-6-0 record and a a berth in the playoffs. As the head coach of the New Orleans Saints he coached three players to award-winning seasons: Drew Brees, AP Offensive Player of the Year in 2008; Drew Brees, AP Offensive Player of the Year in 2011; Marshon Lattimore, AP Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2017; Alvin Kamara, AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2017.
