The New Orleans Saints' fortieth season was in 2006, playing their home games at Louisiana Superdome. During the offseason they hired Sean Payton to lead the team. Payton previously was the assistant head coach/offensive pass game coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys and had nine years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the year 10-6-0 in the regular season, en route to winning the NFC South, and 1-1 in the playoffs, eventually losing to the Chicago Bears 39-14. At the end of the season Sean Payton earned Coach of the Year and Drew Brees earned Walter Payton Man of the Year.
