2006 was the forty-seventh season for the New York Jets. During the offseason they hired Eric Mangini to lead the team. Mangini previously was the defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots and has a total of eleven years of coaching in the NFL. They finished the season 10-6-0 in the regular season. However, they lost their first playoff game to the New England Patriots 37-16. At the conclusion of the season Chad Pennington was awarded with the Comeback Player of the Year.
