The New York Jets' forty-seventh season was in 2006. During the offseason they hired Eric Mangini to lead the team. Mangini previously was the defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots and had eleven years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the year 10-6-0 in the regular season but they lost their first playoff game to the New England Patriots 37-16. At the end of the season, Chad Pennington was awarded with the Comeback Player of the Year award.
