Career Summary

Eric Mangini was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1995 to 2015, finishing his career as the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers. Over his nineteen years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative win/loss record of 159-145-0. During his career he was a head coach for five seasons, first with the New York Jets. He led the Jets for three seasons, compiling a record of 23-25-0. He was fired from the Jets. His next head coaching stint was with the Cleveland Browns from 2009 to 2010, as he led the team to a 10-22-0 record. He was fired from the Browns on Monday, January 3, 2011. During his entire head coaching career, his two teams combined for a record of 33-47-0 across five seasons including going 0-1-0 in the playoffs.

Career Awards

During his time as defensive coordinator and head coach he coached two players to award-winning seasons. As the head coach for the Jets Chad Pennington won Comeback Player of the Year. As the defensive coordinator for the Patriots Tedy Bruschi won Comeback Player of the Year.
