The New York Jets' forty-second season was in 2001, playing their home games at Giants Stadium. During the offseason they hired Herman Edwards to lead the team. Edwards previously was the assistant head coach/defensive backs coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had twelve years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the year 10-6-0 in the regular season but they lost their first playoff game to the Oakland Raiders 38-24.
