2001 was the forty-second season for the New York Jets. During the offseason they hired Herman Edwards to lead the team. Edwards previously was the assistant head coach/defensive backs (secondary) coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has a total of eleven years of coaching in the NFL. They finished the season 10-6-0 in the regular season. However, they lost their first playoff game to the Oakland Raiders 38-24.
