Biography

Lovie Smith was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1989 until 2015, finishing his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their head coach. Over his twenty-one years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative record of 180-156-0. During his career he was a head coach for twelve seasons, first with the Chicago Bears. He led the Bears for ten seasons, compiling a record of 89-71-0. His next head coaching stint came with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He coached the Buccaneers from 2014 to 2015, leading the team to a 8-24-0 record during his two seasons as head coach.

Smith won the NFL's Coach of the Year award in 2005 after guiding the Bears to a 11-5-0 record and a berth in the playoffs. During the 2005 season as the head coach of the Chicago Bears he coached Brian Urlacher to the AP Defensive Player of the Year.
