The Chicago Bears' eighty-sixth season was in 2005, and it was the second season Lovie Smith served as the head coach of the team. The Bears played their home games at Soldier Field. They finished the year 11-5-0 in the regular season, en route to winning the NFC North, but they lost their first playoff game to the Carolina Panthers 29-21. At the end of the season Lovie Smith earned Coach of the Year and Brian Urlacher earned AP Defensive Player of the Year.
