The Boston Patriots' first season was in 1960, playing their home games at Nickerson Field. During the offseason they hired Lou Saban to lead the team. Saban had never previously coached in the AFL in any capacity before the 1960 season. They finished the season 5-9-0, 3-4-0 at home and 2-5-0 on the road.
