The New England Patriots' forty-eighth season was in 2007, and it was the eighth season Bill Belichick served as the head coach of the team. The Patriots played their home games at Gillette Stadium. They finished the year 16-0-0 in the regular season, en route to winning the AFC East, and 2-1 in the playoffs, eventually losing to the New York Giants 17-14. At the end of the season Bill Belichick earned Coach of the Year and Tom Brady earned AP Offensive Player of the Year.
This Patriots season was the first undefeated regular season since the 1972 Miami Dolphins. With the league adding games to the schedule, the 2007 Patriots were the only team in league history to complete a 16-game regular season undefeated.
Many offseason aquisitions set up the Patriots' successful season. The most notable of these include wide receivers Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and Donté Stallworth, who contributed significantly as the team improved over the prior year's 12-4 squad. Many team or individual records were broken over the course of the 2007 season. Brady set the record for most passing touchdowns in a season (later broken) at 50, while Moss set the record for touchdown receptions at 23.
