Career Summary
Bill O'Brien is a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) and has been the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for the New England Patriots since 2023. Prior to this season, he coached for the New England Patriots and Houston Texans for twelve seasons. His most recent position was with the Texans as their head coach/general manager. He was the head coach of the Houston Texans from 2014 until the 2020 season, during which time the Texans went 56-56-0. During his career he was a head coach for seven seasons. He was fired from the Texans on Monday, October 5, 2020. He was fired after a slow start to the season and was replaced by Romeo Crennel as the Texans new interim head coach.
Career Awards
During the 2014 and 2015 seasons as the head coach of the Houston Texans he coached J.J. Watt to the AP Defensive Player of the Year.

Before he was a head coach, O'Brien served as an assistant coach for Bill Belichick. He spent six years as an assistant coach to Bill Belichick, finishing as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2023. One assistant coach from his coaching staffs, Mike Vrabel, was eventually hired as a head coach. He is the current head coach of the Tennessee Titans. After coaching with Bill O'Brien he has posted a 54-45-0 record during the regular season and 2-3 in the playoffs as head coach.
