Career Summary
Bill O'Brien was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 2007 to 2023, finishing his career as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach of the New England Patriots. Over his thirteen years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative win/loss record of 124-85-0. He was the head coach of the Houston Texans from 2014 until the 2020 season, during which time the Texans went 56-56-0. During his career he was a head coach for seven seasons. He was fired from the Texans on Monday, October 5, 2020. He was fired after a slow start to the season and was replaced by Romeo Crennel as the Texans new interim head coach.
Career Awards
During the 2014 and 2015 seasons as the head coach of the Houston Texans he coached J.J. Watt to the AP Defensive Player of the Year.

Before he was a head coach, O'Brien served as an assistant coach for Bill Belichick. He spent six years as an assistant coach to Bill Belichick, finishing as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2023. One assistant coach from his coaching staffs, Mike Vrabel, was eventually hired as a head coach. After coaching on Bill O'Brien's coaching staff, he was the head coach of the Tennessee Titans for six seasons where he combined for a regular season record of 54-45-0 and 2-3 in the playoffs.
