The San Diego Chargers' forty-fifth season was in 2004, and it was the third season Marty Schottenheimer served as the head coach of the team. They finished the year 12-4-0 in the regular season but they lost their first playoff game to the New York Jets 20-17. At the end of the season Marty Schottenheimer earned Coach of the Year and Drew Brees earned Comeback Player of the Year.
