2004 was the forty-fifth season for the San Diego Chargers and the second season for Marty Schottenheimer as the head coach of the Chargers. They finished the season 12-4-0 in the regular season. However, they lost their first playoff game to the New York Jets 20-17. At the conclusion of the season two different people were recognized for their successful seasons: Marty Schottenheimer, Coach of the Year and Drew Brees, Comeback Player of the Year.
