2004 was the thirty-ninth season for the Atlanta Falcons. During the offseason they hired Jim L. Mora (Jr.) to lead the team. Mora (Jr.) previously was the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers and has a total of nineteen years of coaching in the NFL. They finished the season 11-5-0 in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs eventually losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10. At the conclusion of the season Warrick Dunn was awarded with the Walter Payton Man of the Year.
