The Atlanta Falcons' thirty-ninth season was in 2004, playing their home games at Georgia Dome. During the offseason they hired Jim L. Mora (Jr.) to lead the team. Mora (Jr.) previously was the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers and had nineteen years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the year 11-5-0 in the regular season, en route to winning the NFC South, and 1-1 in the playoffs, eventually losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10. At the end of the season, Warrick Dunn was awarded with the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.
