Biography

Charley Winner was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1966 to 1979, finishing his career as the defensive backs (secondary) coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. Over his thirteen years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative record of 91-89-6. During his career he was a head coach for seven seasons, first with the St. Louis Cardinals. He led the Cardinals for five seasons, compiling a record of 35-30-5. His next head coaching stint was with the New York Jets from 1974 to 1975, as he led the team to a 10-18-0 record.

During the 1974 season as the head coach of the New York Jets he coached Joe Namath to the Comeback Player of the Year.
