Career Summary
Jack Patera was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1963 to 1982, finishing his career as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. Over his nineteen years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative win/loss record of 144-123-2. He was the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks from 1976 until the 1982 season, during which time the Seahawks went 39-62-0. During his career he was a head coach for seven seasons.
Career Awards
Patera won the NFL's Coach of the Year award in 1978 after guiding the Seahawks to a 9-7-0 record and a 4-win improvement over the previous season.

Before he was a head coach, Patera served as an assistant coach for Harland Svare, George Allen, Allie Sherman, and Bud Grant. Seven of these years were spent on Grant's coaching staff. One assistant coach from his coaching staffs, Jim E. Mora (Sr.), was eventually hired as a head coach. After coaching on Jack Patera's coaching staff, he was the head coach of the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts for fifteen seasons where he combined for a regular season record of 125-106-0 and 0-6 in the playoffs.

Patera was born on Tuesday, August 1, 1933 in Bismarck, North Dakota. He died on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the age of 85.
