1971 was the eleventh season for the Minnesota Vikings and the fourth season for Bud Grant as the head coach of the Vikings. They finished the season 11-3-0 in the regular season. However, they lost their first playoff game to the Dallas Cowboys 20-12. At the conclusion of the season one different people were recognized for their successful seasons: Alan Page, AP Defensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player.
