Biography

Career Summary

Jack Faulkner was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1955 to 1996, finishing his career as the personnel consultant/scout of the St. Louis Rams. Over his forty years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative win/loss record of 290-278-8. He was the head coach of the Denver Broncos from 1962 until the 1964 season, during which time the Broncos went 11-29-2. During his career he was a head coach for three seasons.

Before he was a head coach, Faulkner served as an assistant coach for Sid Gillman, Norm Van Brocklin, Tom Fears, and Ray Malavasi. Seven of these years were spent on Gillman's coaching staff. During his time as head coach, four assistant coaches, (Mac Speedie, Ed Hughes, Ray Malavasi, and Red Miller) on his coaching staff were hired as head coaches across the league. His coaching tree has combined for a record of 88-76-1 in the regular season and 5-6 in the playoffs during their twelve seasons as head coach after serving on his coaching staffs.

Faulkner was born on Sunday, April 4, 1926 in Youngstown, Ohio. He died on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the age of 82.
