The Los Angeles Rams' forty-third season was in 1978, playing their home games at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. During the offseason they hired Ray Malavasi to lead the team. Malavasi previously was the linebackers coach of the Oakland Raiders in 1972 and has a total of eight years of coaching in the AFL and NFL. They finished the year 12-4-0 in the regular season, en route to winning the NFC West, and 1-1 in the playoffs, eventually losing to the Dallas Cowboys 28-0.
