The Carolina Panthers' seventeenth season was in 2011, playing their home games at Bank of America Stadium. During the offseason they hired Ron Rivera to lead the team. Rivera previously was the defensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers and had fourteen years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the season 6-10-0, 3-5-0 at home and 3-5-0 on the road. At the end of the season, Cam Newton was awarded with the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
