The Houston Oilers' twentieth season was in 1979, and it was the fifth season Bum Phillips served as the head coach of the team. They finished the year 11-5-0 in the regular season and 2-1 in the playoffs, eventually losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-13. At the end of the season, Earl Campbell was awarded with the AP Offensive Player of the Year award.
