The San Diego Chargers' twentieth season was in 1979, playing their home games at San Diego Stadium. During the offseason they hired Don Coryell to lead the team. During his time in the NFL he was head coach for five years. They finished the year 12-4-0 in the regular season but they lost their first playoff game to the Houston Oilers 17-14.
