During his career, he won the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1978, playing for the Houston Oilers; the AP Offensive Player of the Year in 1978, playing for the Houston Oilers; the Most Valuable Player in 1979, playing for the Houston Oilers; the AP Offensive Player of the Year in 1979, playing for the Houston Oilers; and the AP Offensive Player of the Year in 1980, playing for the Houston Oilers.
