2006 was the forty-seventh season for the San Diego Chargers and the fourth season for Marty Schottenheimer as the head coach of the Chargers. They finished the season 14-2-0 in the regular season. However, they lost their first playoff game to the New England Patriots 24-21. At the conclusion of the season one different people were recognized for their successful seasons: LaDainian Tomlinson, Walter Payton Man of the Year, AP Offensive Player of the Year, and Most Valuable Player.
