1986 was the twenty-sixth season for the Minnesota Vikings. During the offseason they hired Jerry Burns to lead the team. Burns previously was the offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings and has a total of twenty years of coaching in the NFL. They finished the season 9-7-0, 5-3-0 at home and 4-4-0 on the road. At the conclusion of the season Tommy Kramer was awarded with the Comeback Player of the Year.
