The Houston Oilers' twenty-seventh season was in 1986, playing their home games at Reliant Astrodome. During the offseason they hired Jerry Glanville to lead the team. Glanville previously was the interim head coach/defensive coordinator of the Houston Oilers and had six years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the season 5-11-0, 4-4-0 at home and 1-7-0 on the road.
