The Detroit Lions' seventy-second season was in 2001, playing their home games at Pontiac Silverdome. During the offseason they hired Marty Mornhinweg to lead the team. Mornhinweg previously was the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach of the San Francisco 49ers and had six years of coaching experience in the NFL.
