1968 was the thirty-ninth season for the Detroit Lions and the first season for Joe Schmidt as the head coach of the Lions. They finished the season 4-8-2, 1-4-2 at home and 3-4-0 on the road. At the conclusion of the season Earl McCullouch was awarded with the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.
