The Washington Redskins' forty-seventh season was in 1978, playing their home games at RFK Stadium. During the offseason they hired Jack Pardee to lead the team. Pardee brought three years of experience as a head coach. They finished the season 8-8-0, 5-3-0 at home and 3-5-0 on the road. At the end of the season, John Riggins was awarded with the Comeback Player of the Year award.
