The Chicago Bears' fifty-ninth season was in 1978, playing their home games at Soldier Field. During the offseason they hired Neill Armstrong to lead the team. Armstrong previously was the defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings and had ten years of coaching experience in the AFL and NFL.
