1978 was the fifty-ninth season for the Chicago Bears. During the offseason they hired Neill Armstrong to lead the team. Armstrong previously was the defensive coach of the Houston Oilers in 1963 and has a total of two years of coaching in the AFL. They finished the season 7-9-0, 4-4-0 at home and 3-5-0 on the road.
