Biography

Monte Clark was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1970 to 1998, finishing his career as the special adviser to the team of the Detroit Lions. Over his sixteen years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative record of 132-101-2. During his career he was a head coach for eight seasons, first with the San Francisco 49ers. He led the 49ers for one season, compiling a record of 8-6-0. His next head coaching stint was with the Detroit Lions from 1978 to 1984, as he led the team to a 43-61-1 record.

As the head coach of the Detroit Lions he coached two players to award-winning seasons: Al Baker, AP Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1978; Billy Sims, AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1980.
