Biography

Monte Clark was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1970 until 1995, finishing his career with the Miami Dolphins as their offensive line coach. Over his fifteen years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative record of 127-90-2. During his career he was a head coach for eight seasons. His first head coaching opportunity came with the San Francisco 49ers. He led the team for one season, compiling a record of 8-6-0. His next head coaching stint came with the Detroit Lions. He coached the Lions from 1978 to 1984, leading the team to a 43-61-1 record during his seven seasons as head coach. As the head coach of the Detroit Lions he coached multiple players to award-winning seasons: Al Baker, AP Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1978; Billy Sims, AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1980.
