Career Summary
Ray Perkins was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1974 to 2000, finishing his career as the running backs coach of the Cleveland Browns. Over his nineteen years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative win/loss record of 114-174-0. During his career he was a head coach for eight seasons, first with the New York Giants. He led the Giants for four seasons, compiling a record of 23-34-0. His next head coaching stint was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1987 to 1990, as he led the team to a 20-43-0 record. During his entire head coaching career, his two teams combined for a record of 43-77-0 across eight seasons including going 1-1-0 in the playoffs.
Career Awards
During his time as head coach and offensive coordinator he coached two players to award-winning seasons. As the head coach for the Giants Lawrence Taylor won AP Defensive Player of the Year (2) and AP Defensive Rookie of the Year. As the offensive coordinator for the Patriots Curtis Martin won AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.
