The Oakland Raiders' thirty-eighth season was in 1997, playing their home games at Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum. During the offseason they promoted Joe Bugel to lead the team. During his time in the NFL he was head coach for four years. He was fired from the Raiders on Wednesday, January 7, 1998. They finished the season 4-12-0, 2-6-0 at home and 2-6-0 on the road.
