1981 was the fifty-seventh season for the New York Giants and the second season for Ray Perkins as the head coach of the Giants. They finished the season 9-7-0 in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs eventually losing to the San Francisco 49ers 38-24. At the conclusion of the season one different people were recognized for their successful seasons: Lawrence Taylor, AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and AP Defensive Player of the Year.
