Career Summary
Norb Hecker was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1959 to 1986, finishing his career as the linebackers coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Over his twenty-one years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative win/loss record of 162-132-5. He was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 1966 until the 1968 season, during which time the Falcons went 6-35-1. During his career he was a head coach for three seasons.
Career Awards
During the 1968 season as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons he coached Claude Humphrey to the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Before he was a head coach, Hecker served as an assistant coach for Vince Lombardi, Alex Webster, and Bill Walsh. Eight of these years were spent on Walsh's coaching staff. One assistant coach from his coaching staffs, Tom Fears, was eventually hired as a head coach. After coaching on Norb Hecker's coaching staff, he was the head coach of the New Orleans Saints for four seasons where he combined for a regular season record of 13-34-2 and 0-0 in the playoffs.

Hecker was born on Thursday, May 26, 1927 in Berea, Ohio. He died on Sunday, March 14, 2004 at the age of 76.
