The San Francisco 49ers' thirty-fourth season was in 1979, playing their home games at Candlestick Park. During the offseason they hired Bill Walsh to lead the team. Walsh previously was the offensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers in 1976 and has a total of ten years of coaching in the AFL and NFL.
