The San Francisco 49ers' fifty-seventh season was in 2002, and it was the sixth season Steve Mariucci served as the head coach of the team. The 49ers played their home games at 3Com Park. He was fired from the 49ers on Monday, March 31, 2003. They finished the year 10-6-0 in the regular season, en route to winning the NFC West, and 1-1 in the playoffs, eventually losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-6.
