Career Summary

Steve Mariucci was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1985 to 2005, finishing his career as the head coach of the Detroit Lions. Over his fourteen years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative win/loss record of 122-102-0. During his career he was a head coach for nine seasons, first with the San Francisco 49ers. He led the 49ers for six seasons, compiling a record of 57-39-0. He was fired from the 49ers on Monday, March 31, 2003. His next head coaching stint was with the Detroit Lions from 2003 to 2005, as he led the team to a 16-32-0 record. He was fired from the Lions on Monday, November 28, 2005. During his entire head coaching career, his two teams combined for a record of 73-71-0 across nine seasons including going 3-4-0 in the playoffs.

As the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers he coached three players to award-winning seasons: Dana Stubblefield, AP Defensive Player of the Year in 1997; Bryant Young, Comeback Player of the Year in 1999; Garrison Hearst, Comeback Player of the Year in 2001.
