The New England Patriots' thirty-eighth season was in 1997, playing their home games at Foxboro Stadium. During the offseason they hired Pete Carroll to lead the team. During his time in the NFL he was head coach for one year. They finished the year 10-6-0 in the regular season, en route to winning the AFC East, and 1-1 in the playoffs, eventually losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers 7-6.
