The Washington Redskins' fiftieth season was in 1981, playing their home games at RFK Stadium. During the offseason they hired Joe Gibbs to lead the team. Gibbs previously was the offensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers and had eight years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the season 8-8-0, 5-3-0 at home and 3-5-0 on the road.
