The St. Louis Cardinals' fifty-first season was in 1971, playing their home games at Busch Stadium (II). During the offseason they hired Bob Hollway to lead the team. Hollway previously was the defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings and had four years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the season 4-9-1, 1-5-1 at home and 3-4-0 on the road.
