2005 was the forty-sixth season for the San Diego Chargers and the third season for Marty Schottenheimer as the head coach of the Chargers. They finished the season 9-7-0, 4-4-0 at home and 5-3-0 on the road. At the conclusion of the season Shawne Merriman was awarded with the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year.
