The New England Patriots' fourteenth season was in 1973, playing their home games at Schaefer Stadium. During the offseason they hired Chuck Fairbanks to lead the team. Fairbanks had never previously coached in the NFL in any capacity before the 1973 season. They finished the season 5-9-0, 3-4-0 at home and 2-5-0 on the road.
