The New England Patriots' twelfth season was in 1971, playing their home games at Schaefer Stadium. During the offseason they promoted John Mazur to lead the team. Mazur previously was the interim head coach/offensive backfield coach of the Boston Patriots and had nine years of coaching experience in the AFL and NFL.
