The New England Patriots' thirty-first season was in 1990, playing their home games at Foxboro Stadium. During the offseason they hired Rod Rust to lead the team. Rust previously was the defensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers and had fourteen years of coaching experience in the NFL. He was fired from the Patriots on Friday, January 4, 1991. They finished the season 1-15-0, 0-8-0 at home and 1-7-0 on the road.
