1988 was the forty-third season for the San Francisco 49ers and the ninth season for Bill Walsh as the head coach of the 49ers. They finished the season 10-6-0 in the regular season and 3-0 in the playoffs eventually winning the NFL championship against the Cincinnati Bengals 20-16 for the team's fifth championship. At the end of the season Jerry Rice earned Super Bowl Most Valuable Player and Roger Craig earned AP Offensive Player of the Year.
