Career Summary
Jim Dooley was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1962 to 1989, finishing his career as the research and quality control of the Chicago Bears. Over his twenty years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative win/loss record of 155-129-6. He was the head coach of the Chicago Bears from 1968 until the 1971 season, during which time the Bears went 20-36-0. During his career he was a head coach for four seasons.

Before he was a head coach, Dooley served as an assistant coach for George Halas, Lou Saban, Neill Armstrong, and Mike Ditka. Eight of these years were spent on Ditka's coaching staff. During his time as head coach, two assistant coaches, (Abe Gibron and Jim Ringo) on his coaching staff were hired as head coaches across the league. His coaching tree has combined for a record of 14-41-1 in the regular season and 0-0 in the playoffs during their four seasons as head coach after serving on his coaching staffs.

Dooley was born on Saturday, February 8, 1930 in Stoutsville, Missouri. He died on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the age of 77.
