The Houston Oilers' twenty-second season was in 1981, playing their home games at Reliant Astrodome. During the offseason they hired Ed Biles to lead the team. Biles previously was the defensive coordinator of the Houston Oilers and had twelve years of coaching experience in the NFL. They finished the season 7-9-0, 5-3-0 at home and 2-6-0 on the road.
