The Houston Oilers' twenty-first season was in 1980, and it was the sixth season Bum Phillips served as the head coach of the team. The Oilers played their home games at Reliant Astrodome. They finished the year 11-5-0 in the regular season but they lost their first playoff game to the Oakland Raiders 27-7. At the end of the season, Earl Campbell was awarded with the AP Offensive Player of the Year award.
