The Kansas City Chiefs' thirtieth season was in 1989, playing their home games at Arrowhead Stadium. During the offseason they hired Marty Schottenheimer to lead the team. During his time in the NFL he was head coach for four years. They finished the season 8-7-1, 5-3-0 at home and 3-4-1 on the road. At the end of the season, Derrick Thomas was awarded with the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
