1997 was the thirty-eighth season for the New England Patriots. During the offseason they hired Pete Carroll to lead the team. During his time in the NFL he was head coach for one year. They finished the season 10-6-0 in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs eventually losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers 7-6.
