The Detroit Lions' tenth season was in 1939, playing their home games at Briggs Stadium. During the offseason they hired Gus Henderson to lead the team. Henderson had never previously coached in the NFL in any capacity before the 1939 season. They finished the season 6-5-0, 4-2-0 at home and 2-3-0 on the road.
